At the scene
- Stop somewhere safe and switch on your hazard lights
- Check everyone is OK and call emergency services if anyone is hurt
- Swap names, phone numbers and insurance details
- Take photos of the cars, the plates and the road
Afterwards
- Tell your insurer, even if you do not plan to claim
- Get a repair estimate before agreeing a cash settlement
- Check for hidden damage: sensors and brackets behind bumpers often break
