Once a month, and before a long trip, walk round the car and check three things: pressure, tread and damage.
What to look for
| Check | What good looks like |
|---|---|
| Pressure | As printed in the door frame or fuel flap, checked cold |
| Tread | At least 3 mm for good wet grip (legal minimum is lower) |
| Wear pattern | Even across the tyre — uneven wear means alignment |
| Damage | No cuts, bulges or nails in the tread or sidewall |
A coin in the tread grooves is a quick test: if you can see the outer band of the coin, the tread is getting low.
