Modern cars have dozens of warning lights. Most are amber, which means “get it checked soon”. A red light usually means stop as soon as it is safe.
Stop as soon as it is safe
- Red oil pressure light
- Red temperature light or steam from the bonnet
- Red brake warning light
- Red battery light with the steering getting heavy
Book a check soon
- Amber engine management light
- Tyre pressure warning
- ABS or traction control light
- Service reminder
A flashing engine light is more serious than a steady one: it often means a misfire that can damage the catalytic converter.
